How do I select a Sunglass?

oglo-sun-glass

The only protection you need in a good sunglass is the ability to block out UVA and UVB light rays. UVA and UVB are the ultraviolet sun rays that can harm the eye. (If you ever see a claim of protection from UVC, these are light rays that are blocked by the ozone and never reach the earth.)

There are two main types of Sunglass lenses: polarized and non-polarized.

Polarized lenses do a better job of filtering and eliminating the glare from what you see (i.e. shiny objects and water). They may help you see things better, but they do not necessarily “protect” your eyes any more than non-polarized lenses.

Non-polarized sun wear can perform the basic needs of a good sunglass and give you all the protection you need.

It is also important to keep in mind the size of the sunglass and how well it blocks out all light.

The most important thing to look for in a “good” sunglass is its ability to block 99-100% of all UVA and UVB light rays.
